Who We Are &
What We Do

The Curative Health Services arm of the East New Britain Provincial Health Authority (ENBPHA) is responsible for the delivery of quality clinical, diagnostic, and specialist health services to the people of East New Britain Province. Our services span the full continuum of curative care — from emergency and inpatient treatment to outpatient consultations, surgical services, allied health, and rehabilitation.

ENBPHA operates a network of health facilities at every level of the health system — from Nonga General Hospital at the apex, through four district hospitals and multiple health centres, down to health sub-centres and aid posts serving remote rural communities. Together, these facilities provide accessible, affordable, and quality care to all 400,000 people of East New Britain Province.

Our curative services are guided by the PNG National Health Plan 2021–2030, the Standard Treatment Guidelines, the Essential Medicines List, and the ENB Provincial Health Improvement Plan — with a commitment to patient safety, clinical quality, and respectful, dignified care for every person who walks through our doors.

We work in collaboration with the National Department of Health, the National Health Service Standards, and development partners to continuously strengthen our workforce, our infrastructure, and our clinical systems — so that ENBPHA can deliver the best possible outcomes for patients and communities across the province.

"Every patient who enters our facilities deserves safe, respectful, and quality care — that is our commitment to the people of East New Britain."

The ENB Referral Pathway

Patients in East New Britain access curative services through a structured referral system — beginning at the community level and escalating to higher levels of care based on clinical need.

01
Community & Aid Post
First point of contact. Basic treatment for minor illness, first aid, malaria testing, and maternal health. Patients requiring more care are referred to the nearest health sub-centre or health centre.
02
Health Centre
Broader service package — outpatient consultations, basic laboratory, supervised delivery, essential medicines. Cases beyond capacity are referred to the district hospital.
03
District Hospital
Manages majority of inpatient surgical, medical, and maternity cases. Complex or specialist cases are referred to Nonga General Hospital.
04
Nonga General Hospital
Apex provincial referral hospital for the most complex and specialist cases. Cases beyond Nonga's capacity are referred to Port Moresby General Hospital or overseas.
